Callbox Supports Earth Day with Tree Planting Initiatives

Callbox Supports Earth Day

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – In celebration of Earth Day and its 20th anniversary, Callbox has initiated a series of tree-planting drives. The first initiative, held on April 6, 2024, at Sitio Lamintao, Brgy. Talisay, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, saw the planting of 150 potted “Bakawan” (Mangroves) seedlings. This contributed to a total of approximately 5,000 seedlings planted since last year by the public and private sectors.

Rooting for Coasts, Together!

“Mangroves are vital to our ecosystem because they protect our community from environmental impacts. For instance, in Lamintao, large waves previously threatened homes. Mangroves also serve as a food source and habitat for aquatic life, which supports our local livelihoods here in Talisay,” explained Cherry Ann Lazarte, Forest Technician 1 and Unit Head at the Coastal Resources Management Unit.

This effort not only bolsters coastal defenses but also enhances the local economy, a sentiment echoed by Susan, a local “Sisi” (Mangrove Oyster) vendor, who stated, “Mangroves are really important for us as they prevent quick erosion of our land. They act like natural walls along our coast, keeping the strong waves at bay. We plant more mangroves to make these walls even stronger.”

Supported by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local groups (Bantay-Dagat), this initiative underscores a collective effort to safeguard and nurture the environment. “I would like to express my gratitude to Callbox for being environmental heroes. Through their partnership with us at the DENR, they not only contribute to ecosystem protection by planting mangroves but also support the local economy here in Talisay,” added Lazarte.

Callbox employees are deeply involved in these initiatives. “For our 20th anniversary, we aimed to showcase our commitment to sustainability. Through these tree planting initiatives, we believe we can offset carbon emissions and significantly contribute to reforestation and biodiversity conservation, which are crucial in today’s environmental context,” shared Ronadhel Aponte, HR and Admin Manager at Callbox.

Callbox Davao Tree Planting Drive

Moreover, the Callbox Davao Tree Planting Drive took place on April 20, 2024, with the theme ‘Greening the Globe: One Tree at a Time’. In a significant effort towards global reforestation and combating climate change, 100 Malubago seedlings were planted in Sitio Lower Titugop, Brgy. Malamba, Marilog District, Davao City.

“Malubago”, known in English as Cotton-Wood, is a notable tropical tree species valued for its robustness and rapid growth. Native to Southeast Asia, these trees are commonly planted for their dense wood and expansive, shade-providing canopy. Malubago trees are recognized for their environmental benefits, particularly in reforestation projects.

This tree-planting campaign received support from Callbox employees, the PNP Marilog, and members of the local community. It marks a substantial contribution to preserving biodiversity and mitigating the impacts of climate change.e-providing canopy. These efforts reflect Callbox’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement. As these trees grow, they will serve as a living testament to the company’s dedication to making a positive impact on the planet and future generations.
