In case you haven’t realized it yet, or haven’t been reading much business-related blogs and websites, customer attention is the newest currency by which online companies do business in. The basis of online b2b sales leads generation is the quantity and the quality of the attention that you receive. The longer and the more attention span that you can attract, the higher the returns will be for your company. Of course, this mostly pertains to online sites, e-commerce stores, and especially blogs. But the offline world may not be so different. Without the attention that you get from the various advertising materials that you put up for your business, you wouldn’t be able to earn any income. Even a telemarketing call center relies on the ring of the phone to get a prospect’s attention before making a sale.Meanwhile, referral links pointing towards your website or blog are also given a monetary value because without these, your sales leads would probably never realize that your online site exists.
Just like real world currency, you have to earn your customer’s attention and the links from your peers. If you decide to participate in less than honest dealings (link exchanges, black hat SEO, link farms, etc.) to illegally earn these online currencies, then you will most certainly be penalized. In the alternate universe of the internet, the law enforcers (who we all hope are upholding the rights of everyone else above their own) are represented by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), and of course, almighty Google.
To earn these links and the attention of your target sales leads, you would have to exchange something of equal value. You will recognize these barter items as your website or blog’s various contents. These can be blog posts, articles, white papers, case studies, videos, podcasts, infographics, images, music, etc; essentially, anything of value. Just as it is in reality, your “valuables” won’t appeal to everyone, but to those who do, you will be compensated by a comment or a referral link. If you have paid ads, then you will automatically receive monetary compensation. To get links faster without breaking the law of the land, the best strategy is to add social sharing buttons on each of your posts. This call to action is a proven method to increase referral traffic.
Of course, simply getting your sales leads’ attention is not enough. You would have to do something spectacular and the contents you provide have to be exceptionally remarkable for their attention to convert into interest, interest into desire, and desire into profits. It doesn’t need to be mentioned anymore, but allow me to emphasize it again, anyway: you have to make your content valuable if you want to attract sales ready leads and earn these internet currencies. The more visually attractive and intellectually stimulating they are, the better chances you have of getting paid for your efforts.
